Massage Therapy - what's it about?
Massage; maybe the oldest medical treatment known to humanity.
Modern treatment methods are rooted in original teachings from China and India, incorporating contemporary techniques and modern thinking.
Massage works on the soft tissues of the body, our skin, muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, joint capsules and nerves. Treatments also mobilise the movement of blood and lymph, promoting the circulation.
Massage can be effective in treating many problems; particularly helpful in relaxing muscle tension and promoting recovery from many acute and chronic conditions.
Receiving massage is an enjoyable experience; but it goes further than that.
As a therapy it has a wide range of positive benefits; promoting wellbeing, and advancing recovery from many health problems, injuries and issues.
Massage is an effective treatment method in it's own right, it can also compliment, support and enhance medical treatment being received from other medical professionals.
Massage treatment helps both physically and mentally.
o Massage therapy has been shown to decrease the effects of anxiety, tension and depression.
o Workers massaged regularly were more alert, performed better and were less stressed than those who weren't massaged.
o Occupational issues such as Repetetive Strain Injury, postural problems & muscle tension can be helped considerably.
o Tension headaches, neck & shoulder stiffness respond well.
o Athritis pain symptoms can be eased with massage.
o Massage increases blood circulation and lymph flow, relaxes muscles, improves range of motion in the joints.
o Recovery from the stiffness experienced after hard exercise, or long inactivity, can be hastened.
o Muscle & joint restrictions, both acute and chronic, can be eased and improved through massage.
o Long term muscle tension and spasm adversely affecting joints, can gain significant benefits from massage treatment.
How about Deep Tissue Massage?
This technique also involves movement and manipulation of the soft tissue of the body.It works with the deeper layers of muscle and fascia, also on the tendons and ligaments.
Using firmly applied pressure along or across or into the grain of the soft tissues it releases congestion and tension, thereby promoting restoration of good health and return to normal balanced function.
Why get a Deep Tissue Massage?
It feels good and it is beneficial to your health. When muscles are stressed and tense, the passage of oxygen and nutrients becomes blocked, leading to inflammation and in turn a build up of toxins in the muscle tissue.
Deep tissue massage is used to release this muscle tension, and restore normal function.
Deep tissue workmay cause some discomfort during, or a little soreness right after the massage. However, this minor discomfort soon fades and you'll feel better than ever within a day or two.
A deep-tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly.
Because many toxins are released, it's important to drink plenty of water after a deep-tissue session to help eliminate these toxins from the body.
The purpose of deep tissue massage is to "unstick" the fibres of a muscle while releasing deeply held patterns of tension, permitting the restoration of blood flow and release of toxins, while relaxing and soothing the muscle.
It is both corrective and therapeutic.
How will I be treated?
The initial consultation always includes an extensive assessment during which you will be asked about your medical history, and the background to any current problems.
This ensures that the treatment can be suitably tailored to your specific needs and that any medical issues are considered.
In certain circumstances massage therapy is not suitable, this can be ascertained during the our initial consultation.
Massage treatment carried out by a reputable and qualified therapist is never embarrassing or undignified.
Careful use of coverings ensures that the only part of the body uncovered is the area actually being worked on at that moment
Your treatment will be a warm experience from which leaves you feeling positive, uplifted and relaxed.
If you have any special needs or would like to discuss a potential treatment for you, please call or email, we're always pleased to help.
